In the retrospective cohort study of Halimi et al (CJASN 2020;15:1587-1594) in all 52,138 patients who had a percutaneous native kidney biopsy in France in the 2010-2018 period, the risk of major bleeding defined as “blood transfusions, hemorrhage/hematoma, angiographic intervention or nephrectomy” at day 8 after biopsy was assessed.

A major bleeding risk score was calculated using parameters before biopsy.

The risk of bleeding was 0.4% in the lowest score group (score = 0-4) to 33% in the highest score group (score ≥ 35).
